COLUMBUS, Ga. — Buford completed its second straight perfect season with a 9-1 win in five innings over East Coweta to capture its second straight Class 7A state title on Saturday at the Olympic Softball Complex.
The Lady Wolves (32-0) hit five home runs -- two each by Adriana Martinez and Mackenzie Pickens -- as part of a 12-hit attack. Martinez finished with three hits and three RBI, Mackenzie Pickens had three hits and two RBI, and Madison Pickens had one hit and two RBI, including a home run as well.
Buford wasted little time, plating three runs in the first on home runs from Martinez and Mackenzie Pickens.
East Coweta got a run back in the top of the second on a solo home run from Jada Savage. But that’s all Emma Williams needed for the Lady Wolves.
Williams scattered five hits, giving up just the one run and striking out three to get the win.
Buford added a run in the second and got two in the fourth and three more in the fifth to clinch the title.
