COLUMBUS, Ga. — Banks County’s bid for its first state title since 2018 came to an end on Saturday in the Class 2A tournament.
The Lady Leopards fell 11-5 to Jeff Davis in the semifinals at the Elite 8 tournament at the Olympic Softball Complex.
Banks County had a 4-2 lead in the fifth after plating four runs on an error, an Allison Murphy RBI single, a RBI fielder’s choice from Reese Murphy, and a sacrifice fly from Peyton Gaylor.
Jeff Davis responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to reclaim the lead. The Lady Leopards tied the game at 5 in the top of the sixth on a passed ball.
The Lady Yellow Jackets, however, exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth and Banks County went down in order in the seventh to end its playoff run.
Gaylor could not duplicate her earlier efforts in the circle, surrendering 15 hits and two walks while striking out just one Jeff Davis batter.
