Commerce, Gainesville, and Lumpkin County all wrapped up region titles on Friday in what was a thrilling second-to-last week of the 2023 regular season.

All three teams came into Friday's action with the simle task of just winning to claim region championships.

For Gainesville, it was the second straight Region 8-6A crown after pulling away for a 41-14 win over North Forsyth at Raider Valley. For Commerce, who held off Rabun County 23-17 in overtime at Tiger Stadium, it was the Tigers' first region title since 2020 and just the second since 2000.

For Lumpkin County, who beat rival Dawson County 34-23, it was the Indians' first-ever region title since the program began playing football in 1961.

Union County secured the No. 2 seed in Region 8-2A after stunning Athens Academy, 35-21, in Blairsville.

Buford clinched the No. 2 seed in Region 8-7A with a 51-0 win over Mountain View coupled with Mill Creek's 41-0 win over Dacula on Friday.
