The Gainesville Theatre Alliance Monday announced its upcoming production of Cinderella, slated to run from Nov. 10 to 18 at Brenau’s Hosch Theatre.
The Rodgers and Hammerstein version of Cinderella is said to be a contemporary retelling of the classic tale many have known and loved across multiple generations, GTA contact Keri McClain said. The main character, Ella, dreams of what life might be like beyond “the confines of her stepmother’s cruel grip,” McClain writes.
With help from the fairy godmother, Ella transforms, finds love and overcomes adversity.
“This age-old story of hope, magic and the power of dreams captures hearts with its delightful characters and memorable songs,” McClain said.
The show is recommended for general audiences.
Director Ste Clough, a Brenau University Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre, has the intention to implement the construct of time heavily into the production, using mechanical intricacies and the Victorian aesthetics of steampunk.
“This production intends to highlight the various facets of the construct of time, giving it an exploded view into the inner workings of a Renaissance clock,” Clough said. “The use of cogs and gears with the aesthetics of steampunk, rotate and create a movement of time in which our space is set, and our story is told.”
The opening night reception performance is free and will take place on Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hosch Theatre inside the John S. Burd Center for the Performing Arts. Local eatery Two Dog will be catering the event.
