A two-vehicle wreck in Jefferson Wednesday resulted in the death of a passenger and sent three others to the hospital.
A purple 2008 Toyota Scion XB and a gray 2019 Ford Fusion were both traveling northbound on MLK Jr. Drive Wednesday evening, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The Scion, driven by Johnny Tuggle, 58, of Winder, slowed to turn into a private driveway when the Fusion, driven by Joshua Weeks, 23, of Jefferson, attempted to pass the Scion in a no-passing zone.
The Fusion reportedly struck the back of the Scion and both vehicles came to a final rest on the west shoulder of the roadway. Troopers with the GSP responded and were on scene at approximately 7:50 p.m.
The front right passenger of the Scion, Tracy Tuggle, 56, of Winder, was pronounced dead at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following the wreck.
A 13-year-old male sitting in the back seat of the Scion sustained serious injuries and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Johnny Tuggle, the driver of the Scion, reportedly sustained minor injuries and was transported to NGMC, according to the GSP.
Weeks, the driver of the Fusion, sustained minor injuries as well.
Charges are pending against Weeks as the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team investigates the incident.
A correction was made on Oct. 22 at 12:25 p.m. to clarify the circumstances of the wreck.
