Habersham County Emergency Services responded to calls of a mobile home fire Monday morning in Alto.

A release from Habersham County said the female resident of the home and one dog were able to escape the fire but the blaze claimed the lives of at least two dogs.

Dispatchers from Habersham County E-911 received calls from a neighbor at around 7:35 a.m. reporting seeing smoke and flames from the home.

The cause of the fire is listed as undetermined but a possible source was a space heater plugged into a power strip Habersham officials said.

The mobile home was completely destroyed in the blaze.

Habersham County Emergency Services, Baldwin Fire Department, Cornelia Fire Department and Habersham County Sheriff's Office all responded to the scene.

An investigator from Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King’s Fire Investigations Unit responded to the scene.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist with the female resident's immediate needs.
