DAWSONVILLE, Ga. — Dawson County moved into second place in Region 7-3A with a big 7-3 win over arch-rival Lumpkin County at home on Monday.
Sadie Dotson doubled and homered and drove in three runs for the Lady Tigers (16-9, 11-3 Region 7-3A).
Layne Bailey was stellar in the circle, striking out 12, walking none, and scattering nine hits in a complete-game effort.
Lumpkin County (10-14, 5-10 Region 7-3A) took the initial lead in the first on a solo home run from Tia Sparks. Dawson County answered in the second on Dotson’s RBI double and then took a 3-1 lead in the fourth on Dotson’s two-run home run to right.
The Lady Tigers added a run in the fifth, three more in the seventh before Dawson County plated a pair of runs in the seventh.

The Lady Dragons scored the final nine runs to pull away for a key Region 8-5A win on the road on Monday.
Jefferson (15-5, 11-3 Region 8-5A) scored in every inning. Clarke Central cut the lead to 3-2 in the first before the Lady Dragons scored five in the second, one in the third, and three more in the fourth to invoke the mercy rule.
Next up, Jefferson will play host to Loganville (13-12, 10-5 Region 8-5A) on Wednesday. The Lady Red Devils are just 1 1/2 games behind the Lady Dragons in third place.
