Several high profile Northeast Georgia soccer programs will open their 2023 season on Tuesday, including the defending Class 5A state champion Johnson boys.
The Knights, now in Class 4A, will travel to Class 6A Habersham Central as part of the newly-created Copa 985 league involving eight Northeast Georgia schools.
The Buford girls, who lost in the quarterfinals in Class 6A last season, will play host to Chamblee, which won the Class 5A last before having to vacate the title.
The Flowery Branch girls will travel to Commerce, a Class A Public semifinalist from last season, in what should be challenging openers for both teams.
Overall, 17 schools in the area will open their seasons tonight with girls and boys action.
Gainesville and East Hall kicked off the season on Monday, with the Red Elephants sweeping the Vikings at East Hall Stadium.
(Check below for the schedule of Tuesday’s matches. All matches will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the girls unless otherwise noted.)
