Boys basketball: Bluff stays perfect in 8-4A; Banks opens 8-2A with a win; Lakeview gets road win

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Cherokee Bluff defense held North Hall to just 31 points over the final three quarters in taking an impressive 70-52 win at home on Tuesday.

The Bears (11-4, 4-0 Region 8-4A) remained perfect and in first place in Subregion A with the win. The loss dropped North Hall (8-6, 2-2 Region 8-4A) two games back in third place in the subregion standings.

However, the Trojans led the Bears 21-19 after the opening quarter on the strength of 7 points from Cole Hulsey. It was all Cherokee Bluff the rest of the way.

The Bears used a 19-13 second quarter to grab a 38-34 halftime lead. Bluff held North Hall to just 18 second half points and built a 57-40 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Carlos Marlow had a huge game for Bluff pouring in 17 points to go with 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Logan Holmes added 16 points and Boston Kersh 15 points and 6 rebounds for the Bears.

North Hall was led by Hulsey, who finished with 15 points. Rolan Imai and JT Chester each had 6 points for the Trojans. The Bluff defense held shooters Luke Sanders (5) and Sam Gailey (6) to just 11 total points combined for the game.

EAST JACKSON 56

The Leopards opened Region 8-2A with a blowout win at home on Tuesday.

Banks County (11-5, 1-0 Region 8-2A) ran out to a 25-17 first quarter lead as Aaron Scott poured in 9 of his 21 points in the period. The Leopards used a 19-9 second quarter run, behind 10 points from Luke Dale, to explode for a 44-26 halftime lead.

It didn’t get any better for the Eagles (6-8, 0-1 Region 8-2A) in the second half. The Leopards outscored the Eagles 34-30 in the final 16 minutes as East Jackson could never catch up.

Dale finished with 22 points to lead Banks County as 11 different players scored. Kolby Watson added 9 points for the Leopards.

Markel Jarrells led East Jackson with 12 points. Kelby Anderson had 10 for the Eagles.

The Lions rebounded from a rough Lanierland Tournament to knock off the Paladins on the road.

Lakeview (6-8) led most of the way taking a 21-16 lead after the first quarter. The Lions pushed their lead to 38-27 by halftime and 54-39 heading into the fourth.

Justyce Sadler led Lakeview with 17 points. Jack Collins and Brock Graham each added 16 points and Tayden Ware had 11 points for the Lions.

Lakeview next will travel to Union County on Saturday in another non-region contest.

Cherokee Bluff's Carlos Marlow (5) had a huge game pouring in 17 points to go with 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals to lead the Bears to a 70-52 win over North Hall on Tuesday in Region 8-4A action.
