Monday night’s officer-involved shooting in Mt. Airy claimed the life of Anthony Maurice Tollison, 39, of Mt. Airy.
That’s according to GBI spokeswoman Natalie Ammons.
The GBI is investigating the officer-involved shooting Monday on Cross Road in Mt. Airy, where Habersham County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call at 8:43 p.m. The caller said someone in the home had a gun then hung up.
The GBI said deputies were not able to immediately contact anyone at the home when they arrived. But after some time, the door opened, and deputies were confronted by a man who appeared to have a weapon. Deputies shot the man.
Deputies administered CRP until Habersham County Emergency Services arrived. But Tollison died of his injuries.
The crime scene investigation revealed that the man was armed in a replica firearm.
An autopsy will be performed on Tollison at the GBI State Crime Lab in Decatur.
This is the 87th officer involved shooting the GBI has been requested to investigate in 2022.
