Authorities arrested Gainesville High School's former varsity boys golf coach on Wednesday for the alleged molestation of an underage girl.

According to a press release from the Gainesville Police Department, Cameron Millholland, 26, was being held in the Hall County Jail as of Thursday morning.

Police began the investigation into Millholland on Aug. 18, after Gainesville City School officials notified law enforcement of a complaint that Millholland was allegedly having inappropriate and improper conduct with a 16-year-old girl.

Millholland was immediately placed on leave and the school system has assisted in the investigation. His resignation was then accepted on Aug. 19.

Authorities found a pattern of alleged inappropriate behavior throughout the investigation. Millholland is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student via electronic communication.

Investigators later obtained arrest warrants for Millholland on Wednesday, alongside a search warrant for his residence. Millholland was arrested at his home in Dawsonville on the same day.

Milholland led the Gainesville boys golf team to a state runner-up finish in Class 7A to end the 2022 spring season. Gainesville school officials said Millholland was also a social studies teacher at the school and previously served as an assistant for the school's football team.

"While we are shocked and devastated by the action of one of our former employees, we applaud the students for coming forward," Gainesville City Schools Superintendent Jeremy Williams said in a statement. "Safety is always the top priority, and the GHS administration responded quickly to the allegations.  Resources have been and will be available to those impacted by this incident."

The case remains active and open. Anyone with information can submit a tip to the Gainesville Police Department here.

“Safety of students and staff is our top priority," Gainesville Police Chief Jay Parrish said in a statement. "We encourage students and stakeholders to report any such allegations to be investigated. We are thankful to Dr. Williams and the entire Red Elephant community for their ongoing support.”
