Rain pushes NASCAR Cup Series at Daytona to Sunday morning

Posted 8:15PM on Saturday 27th August 2022 ( 2 years ago )

Mother Nature won out on Saturday night, as persistent rain showers pushed the NASCAR Cup Series race to Sunday.

The race is now scheduled for 10 am on Sunday morning.

Rain showers pelted the Daytona Beach area Saturday afternoon afternoon, first pushing back the start of the final race of the regular season.

The rain halted around 7 pm, but returned again just before 7:30 pm, pushing back track drying efforts.

After again trying to wait out the weather, NASCAR officials finally made the call to push the race to Sunday.

Once the race gets underway, Kyle Larson will lead the green flag, with Dawsonville, Georgia’s Chase Elliott starting alongside.  Joey Logano will start third, with Daniel Suarez fourth, and Christopher Bell fifth.

Tyler Reddick, Kevin Harvick, Chris Buescher, Michael McDowell, and Alex Bowman rounds out the top 10 starters.

WDUN will carry live MRN Radio coverage of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race beginning at 10 am at Daytona International Speedway on 102.9 FM and streaming live on AccessWDUN.
