Softball: Big inning propels Chestatee past Gainesville

GAINESVILLE — Savannah Petty and Remy Odom led a 14-hit attack as Chestatee pulled away late for a 14-6 win over Gainesville on Monday.

It was a scoreless game until the Lady War Eagles (5-5) plated five runs in the third. Chestatee added two more in the fourth for a 7-0 lead.

The Lady Red Elephants (0-8) got within 7-4 score two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings. But Chestatee exploded for seven run in the top of the seventh to take a 14-4 lead.

In the big seventh inning, Kathryn Roush, Lacie James, Ashlyn Gibbs, Jaden Lee, and Grace Jones all drove in runs for the Lady War Eagles.

James got the win for Chestatee, surrendering four runs on four hits while striking out five in  six innings. Hannah Pierce threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Keyra Silva took the loss for Gainesville.

Silva, Ailani Soto, and Barbara Arredondo all had two hits for Gainesville.
