Agents recover $2.8-million drug stash in Hall County, charge Gainesville man

A Gainesville man faces drug trafficking and distribution charges after a multi-million-dollar stash was discovered in the northwestern part of the county.

“This particular investigation involves one suspect and that is Jason Mark Ayers – he’s 38, he’s from Gainesville,” said Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman B.J. Williams. “The investigation actually involved members of the Homeland Security Investigation’s Task Force, the FBI, the DEA, and then also the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.”

Williams said drug agents started looking into Ayers’ activity about a month ago.

Then on Thursday, investigators found about 8 kilos of methamphetamine and 20 kilos of liquid methamphetamine in a wooded area off Whelchel Mill Road.

While there, agents also located drug paraphernalia, specifically drug equipment used for turning liquid meth into the finished product, Williams said.

Also on Thursday, Ayers was arrested during a traffic stop at the intersection of Spout Springs Road and Forrest Knoll Drive.

“The amount of meth that our investigators discovered was huge,” Williams said. “The approximate street value of the drugs that were seized at that Whelchel Mill Road location is $2.8 million.”

In addition, investigators also have tied Ayers to a drug seizure back in March at a storage facility on Dawsonville Highway. In that operation, HSI agents discovered 600 grams of meth, 20 grams of cocaine, 199 grams of heroin, and 60 grams of psilocybin mushrooms in a storage unit at the facility.

Street value of the drugs in the March 31 seizure was $122,000.

Ayers remains in the Hall County Jail without bond, charged with:
