Gas prices continue to drop in Georgia

Posted 7:10AM on Monday 18th July 2022 ( 1 year ago )

Gas prices continue to drop in Georgia. According to the AAA weekly fuel price report released on Monday morning, gas has dropped another 16 cents this week. The average for a gallon of unleaded gas is now $4.03 across the state. That’s 46 cents less than last month.

Georgia continues to remain one of the top three states in the country with the lowest average gas prices. South Carolina has the cheapest gas in the county with one cent less on average than Georgia at $4.02 per gallon.

Despite the drop in gas prices, the state average is still $1.06 more than this time last year.

“The decrease in demand, alongside declining oil prices, has helped to lower gas prices,” said Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman. “As these supply/demand dynamics hold, drivers will likely continue to see relief at the pump.”

Since last Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has decreased by 15 cents to $4.52. According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand dropped from 9.41 million barrels a day to 8.06 million barrels a day last week, while total domestic gas stocks increased by 5.8 million barrels.

According to AAA, declining crude demand due to reduced economic activity or continuing COVID-19-related lockdowns in China could continue the downward trend of gas prices.
