ATHENS — Gainesville's Hudson Justus won a spot in the seeason-ending Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship after edging out five other players, including three in the world top 20, in a qualifier last weekend at the University of Georgia golf course.
Only the winner advanced to the The Notah Begay Finals, which are scheduled for November 7-9 at the Koasati Pines at Coushatta course in Kinder, La., and which will be tape broadcast on The Golf Channel.
Justus, still 10, took the 10-11-year-old-division title shooting rounds of 71 and 69 (2-under par 140) to beat Colton Johnson from Appling, who fired a two-day total of 4-over 146 for second place.
Four of the six high-level participants, including Justus, were ranked in the 10-11 year-old division's top 20 in the world in their age bracket.
Justus also recently was voted USKids Co-Player of the Year, all boys age groups 6 through 12, for the 2020-21 season.
Next up for Justus will be Under Armour Worlds in mid-July, and the USKids Worlds in the first week in August.
