Pet supplies chain, Petco, has awarded a $20,000 grant to Hall County's Animal Shelter as part of a national campaign to improve animals' lives.

"This investment is one of hundreds recently announced totaling more than 15 million and support given to organizations across the country as part of Petco Love's mission to make pet families closer, stronger and healthier," said Brandon Womack, general manager at the Mall of Georgia Petco.

The Petco Love program has partnered with more than 4,000 organizations across the U.S., and helped with the adoption of more than 6.5 million pets. The money is donated by customers when they checkout at their stores around the country.

Officials from the shelter said they already know how they plan to use the money to help animals.

"We're going to purchase different tests, medications, vaccines to help us identify and treat various diseases such as parvovirus, heartworm disease, feline leukemia virus, things like that," said Stephanie Loden, Hall County Animal Shelter Program Coordinator.

The Hall County Animal Shelter, established in 2009, has a legacy of giving all stray animals a temporary home regardless of age, breed, or medical needs. For more information about the Hall County Animal Shelter, visit hallcounty.org.
