Oakwood teen arrested for shooting Gwinnett County Police K9

A teenager from Oakwood has been arrested in connection with the May 23 shooting of a Gwinnett County Police K9 in Lawrenceville.

Levi Kennedy Bryan, 17, was reportedly hospitalized during a shootout with police. He was arrested after being discharged from the hospital and was in the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond as of Friday morning.

Bryan was charged with two counts of aggravated assault against law enforcement, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of, or attempt to commit certain crimes, unlawful entry into a building or vehicle, harming a law enforcement animal, first-degree burglary and possession of a pistol or revolver by a person under 18 years of age.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Bryan entered a home on Pine Lane around 10:17 with a gun. He threatened the people inside, including his girlfriend.

He was forced to leave the home before officers arrived. When Gwinnett County Police responded to the aggravated battery call, they found Bryan in the woods behind Pine Lane homes.

Bryan fired his gun and struck a K-9 police dog. Officers returned fire and shot Bryan.

Kai, the K-9 police dog, was treated at the North Georgia Veterinary Specialist and was later discharged.

According to the GBI, there have been 52 officer-involved shootings in 2022.
