A 39-year-old man from Gwinnett County is the latest in a string of Georgians to be sentenced for playing a role in the Jan. 6, U.S. Capitol riot.
Records from the U.S. Attorney's office show Jonathan David Laurens pleaded guilty back in February to the following charges:
- Knowingly Entering or Remaining in any Restricted Building or Grounds without Lawful Authority
- Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds
- Enter and Remaining on the Floor of Congress
- Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building and Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building
As part of his plea deal, the land surveyor will spend a year on probation and two months on house arrest.
Court documents show Laurens was seen in multiple videos posted on the day of the riot, and he even took a selfie by a portrait of George Washington in the Rayburn Reception Room.
"We got into the capitol, walked around, chanted some slogans and stuff," Laurens wrote on Facebook. "All in all, I had fun! Lol."
Laurens is one of at least 22 people with ties to Georgia to be charged in connection with the deadly riot.
