UGA student receives inaugural scholarship from Rushton

Gainesville-based accounting and consulting firm Rushton has awarded a University of Georgia student with a new scholarship intended for students pursuing a degree in accounting.

According to a press release from Rushton, Zachary Tyler Martin was selected for the Rushton Educational Scholarship. The scholarship was established in December 2021 at the North Georgia Community Foundation.

Martin, a rising junior from Kennesaw, can apply the one-time $2,750 award to tuition and education-related expenses.

“We are delighted to make this investment in Zachary and his bright future in accounting,” said Chris Hollifield, Rushton’s managing partner. “His passion for accounting, balanced with a commitment to community, really set him apart for this award.”

Martin is seeking a degree in accounting and plans to pursue a CPA license and potentially a juris doctorate in tax law. He has a 4.0 GPA and plans to graduate in May 2024. He has also served as a peer tutor in accounting, economics, and legal studies, and volunteers at UGA's Disability Resource Center.

Martin is a member of the UGA Judiciary and the Student Financial Planning Association. He also participates in the university's Professionalism and Mentorship programs. He is a Phi Sigma Pi member and has served as initiate class secretary.

The Rushton scholarship is administered by the North Georgia Community Foundation and runs through its annual scholarship cycle. Applicants are required to be full-time rising junior or senior college students pursuing a degree in accounting at a public or private college or university in Georgia. They are also required to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 Extracurriculars are also considered.
