Shriners’ Summer Ceremonial bring smiles, stunts to Helen

HELEN – Every June, people line the streets of Alpine Helen to see the latest specialty rides from hundreds of members of Shrine clubs across the region.

Thousands lined Edelweiss, Chattahoochee, and Main streets Saturday afternoon as Shrine groups from as far away as Jacksonville, Fla., brought their motorized units for the annual Helen Shriners Parade.

Shriners International is a fraternity based on fun, fellowship, and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth.

The fraternity established Shriners Hospitals for Children as its official philanthropy 100 years ago, in 1922.

Shriners wear distinctive red fezzes as their official headgear.
