Lumpkin County sheriff says T-Mobile callers having trouble talking to dispatchers

Posted 2:45PM on Monday 6th June 2022 ( 1 year ago )

In times of urgency but when emergency response is not required, callers rely on administrative phone lines to reach public safety dispatchers, but in Lumpkin County, mobile phone customers from one provider are having trouble with that.

“It has been brought to my attention that some people who have been trying to contact our communications/dispatch center through the non-emergency phone numbers have not been able to talk with communications/dispatch,” said Sheriff Stacy Jarrard in a social media post. “The inability to talk has been described as: Someone calls communications/dispatch, the phone is answered, and the dispatcher can hear the caller, however, the caller cannot hear the dispatcher. The problem has only been reported as occurring with T-Mobile phones. We are not familiar with the cause and have alerted the local phone provider and notified T-Mobile.”

Jarrard said those trying to call communications/dispatch in Lumpkin County who cannot get through on the non-emergency lines should dial 9-1-1.
