Jackson EMC is now offering solar energy blocks to customers for a monthly rate.

In a release earlier in the week, the cooperative said those interested in using solar energy can now pay $23 per month to draw it from an off-site facility without having to use rooftop solar panels.

The offer is part of Jackson EMC's Cooperative Solar program. The block will offer between 200 and 225 kilowatt-hours a month. The cooperative said their average household uses around 1,200 kilowatt-hours of energy per month, but any kilowatt-hours used by the solar block will offset the same number of kilowatt-hours on the customer's bill.

Jackson EMC advised customers that solar energy is dependent on the sun's position, time of year and weather, meaning kilowatt-hours will likely vary by month.

More information on the program can be found on the cooperative's website.
