Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services extinguished an apartment fire on June 3 shortly after midnight.
Two 911 callers at the Rosemont Peachtree Corners apartments reported a porch fire that was spreading to an attic space. One of the callers saw the flames through an HVAC register in the ceiling.
Firefighters arrived on the scene and quickly worked to evacuate all the apartments. They used multiple hose lines to prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings. After the roof collapsed on the burning apartment, firefighters used turrets to extinguish the flames.
The cause of the fire was ruled accidental. Fire investigators determined that coals from a charcoal grill started the fire.
No one was injured, but residents of 12 units were displaced. They are being assisted by the Red Cross and apartment management.
