Free summertime trolley service in Gainesville starting next week

Posted 4:00PM on Friday 3rd June 2022 ( 2 years ago )

Beginning on Monday, Gainesville residents will have a new way to travel from their neighborhoods to downtown—on board a free summer trolley service from Hall Area Transit.

"On the heels of COVID-19, everyone's excited to get out and connect and have some fun," said Gainesville-Hall County Community Service Center Director Phillippa Lewis Moss. "We decided that this would be a great year to help people get downtown and to circulate some of those dollars that people may have been holding on to for the last three years."

The trolleys were purchased in 2020 and have been used for special events on several occasions since then.

The summertime trolley will offer service beginning Monday, June 6. The routes include one for downtown, which will run on weekdays, and two lines for the Dixon and Glenwood neighborhoods on weekends.

According to a press release, the downtown summer trolley can transport 24 passengers at one time and will run Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Officials expect the trolleys will complete a round every 30 minutes.

Trolley services for the Dixon and Glenwood neighborhoods will run on Fridays and Saturdays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Officials estimate that the service will connect more than 1,000 households to downtown.
