Garbage truck knocks out power to Banks Crossing area

Posted 4:35PM on Tuesday 31st May 2022 ( 2 years ago )

Power and phone service to traffic signals and businesses along U.S. 441 in the Banks Crossing area has been mostly restored after nearly five hours.

A Waste Pro garbage truck got tangled in lines Tuesday morning, said Banks County Sheriff’s Maj. Carissa McFaddin.

Pressure from the tangled truck broke at least one power pole near Meadows Surgical Arts in the area of Industrial Park Drive, bending others.

Jackson Electric Membership Corp. still is reporting about three dozen customers are affected, and both Jackson EMC and Windstream crews remain on scene working to restore service to their customers and finish up repairs.

The outage affected businesses and traffic lights along U.S. 441 on both sides of I-85.

McFaddin reminds drivers to always treat non-functioning traffic signals as four-way stops.
