A Forsyth County dog park is set to unveil a statue monument that will recognize canines who have served the armed forces.

In a release, the county says the statue will be unveiled at Coal Mountain Dog Park during a ceremony on Saturday, June 4 at 10:30 a.m. The event will be open to the public.

"We were pleased to partner with local veterans to bring this monument to life and to recognize their service and sacrifice to our nation" Assistant County Manager Brandon Kenney said.

District 4 Commissioner Cindy Mills and Sr. Vice Commander for American Legion Post 307 Gary Ely will speak during the ceremony.

The statue was approved by the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners in December of 2021 and is being funded with a portion of SPLOST funds designated for a downtown Cumming veteran's memorial. It is being built by artist Susan Norris with the design approved by the Forsyth County Patriots Alliance.

Coal Mountain Dog Park is located on County Way across from the Forsyth County Animal Shelter.
