Three Northeast Georgia High school graduates received scholarships at Tuesday night's Gainesville City Council Meeting.
Two students were awarded the "You're the Reason" scholarship. Created back in 2011, the scholarship is available to graduating seniors with one or more parents employed by the City of Gainesville.
Alyssa Yarck, a graduate of Chestatee High school, was awarded $1,500. Yarck is studying nursing at Mercer University.
Grand-prize recipient, Lumpkin County High School student Michelle Morris, was awarded $2,000. She plans to attend the University of North Georgia in the fall and study kinesiology and pediatric physical therapy.
A separate scholarship, supported by the Gainesville Chicken Festival and administered by the North Georgia Community Foundation, was awarded to soon-to-be Franklin County graduate Alexander Turner.
The scholarship is available to any high school senior or college student in the state pursuing a career in the poultry industry. Turner received $2,000, and he is attending the Univerisity of Georgia in the fall.
