One Dacula High School senior earned the Gates Scholarship, which will fund the full cost of her college attendance.

Gwinnett County Public Schools announced Wednesday that Micah Petit-Bois is one of 300 students selected across the nation for this prestigious scholarship. Gates scholars must have a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of a 3.3 on a 4.0 scale and rank in the top 10 percent of their class.

Aspiring Gates scholar students must also possess leadership abilities and personal success skills.

The Gates Scholarship is designed to open the college pathway for high-achieving, low-income minority students. It covers students’ full cost of attendance, including: tuition, fees, room board, transportation, books and other personal costs.

The scholarship will continue to support students throughout their academic career, according to a Gwinnett County Public Schools press release. It will engage with scholars and their institution to provide resources and services for students’ success.

Scholars can access these resources online and benefit from mentoring, leadership development, career services and many more opportunities. Scholar students will then be able to make a successful transition from their academic program to their chosen career.

The Gates Scholarship is funded by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
