GSP says charges pending in fatal Banks County wreck

An Athens man died, and a Clarkesville woman is facing charges in Thursday’s fatal wreck on Ga. 15 / U.S. 441 near Homer.

37-year-old Heriberto Ramon Rancho had stopped his vehicle on the right shoulder of the highway with its emergency flashers on to adjust the load on a utility trailer he was towing, says Sgt. 1st Class D.A. Rathel of GSP Post 6 Gainesville.

Rancho was killed when he and the trailer were struck a vehicle driven by 38-year-old Jessica McNew, according to Rathel.

Charges will be released once the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team has completed its investigation.

The wreck happened just after 5 p.m. between Windmill Farm Road and McCoy Bridge Road northbound, shutting down the road for about three hours.

The aftermath of Thursday afternoon's wreck can be seen on Ga. 15 / U.S. 441 north of Windmill Farm Road.
