Surprise wedding occurs in front of a couple hundred people in Alto

Those attending Saturday’s Lupus Awareness Ride in Alto got to see and be part of something unexpected.

Organizer Amos Smith became emotional as he proposed to Stacie Ivie before the ride, and then the couple proceeded to get married in front of all those on site.

“I was surprised with the wedding, and it turned out great,” said Stacie Smith after the ceremony. “All our family and friends were already here so we didn’t have to do a different event. I’m so excited.”

The couple’s first date was at a previous Lupus Awareness Ride in Alto, so getting married at the event was special for them, both said.

In addition, Ivie’s mother, Audrey Turner, recently retired after 22 years as mayor of Alto.

Wayne Pirkle of Heaven's Saints Motorcycle Ministry performed the ceremony.
