Two men from Sugar Hill were arrested just before midnight Thursday when a Gwinnett County police officer spotted them street racing.

The men were racing on Buford Highway near Robert Bell Parkway. The officer pulled over both vehicles and arrested the drivers.

Zackary Boyd, 19, was charged with street racing, as well as possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, street racing and several other traffic charges. He was taken into custody.

Bennett Jewel, 25, was given a citation for street racing and was released on the scene.

The Gwinnett County Police Department and other agencies have been cracking down on street racing in recent months.

"The dangerous and illegal practices of stunt driving and street racing are a danger to Gwinnett residents on our roads and the Gwinnett Police Department is committed to keeping our roadways safe," the department said in a news release.
