Baseball playoffs: North Hall rolls into 2nd round; Dawson Co. eliminated; LCA falls in GAPPS

GAINESVILLE — North Hall scored a combined 22 runs to dance into the second round of the Class 3A playoffs on Friday. 

The top-ranked Trojans beat Westminster 11-2 and 11-1 in the opening round of the playoffs at Lynn Cottrell Field. 

In Game 1, the Trojans rocked Westminster for six runs to pace the win. Tate Brooks, Ajay Jones, Jaret Bales and Bradford Puryear drove in runs in the inning. 

Bales pitched five innings, allowing two runs on six hits and eight strikeouts. 

Tate Brooks and Hunter Brooks had two hits to lead North Hall Trojans Varsity.

In Game 2, the Trojans blew open the game in the second inning thanks to RBIs by Luke Erickson, Hudson Barrett, Jones and Jace Bowen to go up 6-0. 

Hunter Brooks smacked a two-run home run in the fifth inning. The Trojans put five runs on the board in the inning. 

Hunter Brooks surrendered one run on three hits over four innings, striking out three. 

Hunter Brooks and Erickson all had two hits to lead the Trojans.


REDAN 13, 8
DAWSON COUNTY 9, 6

The Tigers couldn't overcome the offensive power of Redan as they were eliminated in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs on the road Friday. 

In Game 1, Redan scored 13 unanswered runs to take a 13-1 lead. 

The Tigers scored six runs in the fifth inning off doubles from Luke Mulberry and Julian Horner and a single by Davis Glass. 

Although the Tigers held Redan scoreless over the next two innings, all they could muster was two more runs in the seventh inning. 

In Game 2, Redan jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, but the Tigers rallied back with a four-run third inning. Elijah Odom, Mulberry and Brandon Cramer powered the big inning with RBIs.

Redan added three more runs in the fifth, and the Tigers put two on the board in the failed comeback in the bottom of the seventh. 

Odom led the Tigers with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.


KINGS ACADEMY 9-12,
LANIER CHRISTIAN 8-7

The Lightning were knocked out in the first round of the GAPPS playoffs. 

In both games, the LCA took early leads but could not hold it. In the first game, the Lightning scored twice in the first only to see Kings Academy use a six-run third to take a 7-2 lead.

Lanier Christian scored single run in the fourth, fifth, and sixth and had the go-ahead run on base in the seventh but hit into a double play to end the game. Caleb Moore, Camden Hohman, and Quinn Winfrey led LCA with two hits each. Carter Raulerson and Jordan Smith both had two RBI.

In Game 2, LCA again got a quick lead with three runs in the bottom of the first. But once again Kings battled back, pulling ahead in the fourth. LCA never recovered.

Gavin Strabala led the Lightning in the second game with two RBI.  Isaac Dinn and Moore scored two runs each.
