Track & Field: White Co. boys, Bluff girls lead 7-3A meet after Day 1

FLOWERY BRANCH — The White County boys and Cherokee Bluff girls hold the lead after the opening day of the Region 7-3A track and field meet on Thursday at Cherokee Bluff High School.

The first day held the field events plus relay races finals. The rest of the track finals are scheduled for Friday.

White County tallied 77 points on the strength of Josh Brooks, who won the high jump title and finished second in the long jump, to lead West Hall (65 points) and North Hall (63). Gilmer (51) and East Forsyth (27) round out the top five.

The Bluff girls (85 points) hold a slim 8-point lead over White County (77 points) with North Hall (46) a distant third.

The Bluff girls won the 4x200 relay and had three of the top five finishers in the 1,600-meter run. The Lady Bears’ Avery Jones also won the shot put.

The Lady Warriors got a win from Kendra Dye in the discus.
