Golf: GHS boys capture Area 2 title

ACWORTH — The Gainesville boys golf team captured its first region title since 2019 after firing a 298 to hold off defending champion Lambert by five stroke on Monday.

The Area 2 title for the Red Elephants was the first for any Gainesville team since joining Class 7A. The boys golf finished second to the Longhorns in 2021.

Ryan Davidson, Henry Kopydlowski, and Brigham Ralston each shot 2-over par 73s to finish in the top five to pace Gainesville.

Saketh Amble of West Forsyth took the individual title shooting a 1-under 70.

West Forsyth finished third. North Forsyth finished fourth but shot a 316 to qualify for the Class 7A Sectionals.

The Sectionals will be held on May 2 at Kinderlou Country Club in Valdosta, hosted by Lowndes County.

The Class 7A state meet will be held on May 16-17 at Chattahoochee Golf Course in Gainesville.
