Hall County Schools qualify for Advanced Placement Honor Schools

Posted 9:10PM on Saturday 2nd April 2022 ( 2 years ago )
State School Superintendent Richard Woods named several Hall County School District high schools as 2021 Georgia Advanced Placement Honor Schools.

Woods selected seven Hall County School District schools by analyzing AP exam test data from July 2021. AP exams provide students to take college-level courses for an opportunity to earn college credit. Students receive this credit if they score a three, four or five on their AP exam.

Chestatee High School, Johnson High School and West Hall High School qualified as AP access and support schools. At least 30% of students who identify as African American or Hispanic took the exams and 30% of all AP testing students earned scores of three or higher.

Cherokee Bluff High School and Flowery Branch High School were named as AP schools of distinction. At least 20% of these schools’ total student population took AP exams. Of the students that took the exams, 50% of them received scores of three or higher.

Flowery Branch High School also qualified as an AP humanity school and an AP humanities achievement school.

AP humanity schools have a minimum of five students who take AP exams in each of the following categories: one English language course, two history or social science courses, one fine arts course and one world languages course.

To qualify as an AP humanities achievement school, at least 50% of Flowery Branch High School students took AP humanities exams and earned scores of three or higher.

Several schools qualified as AP STEM schools. Cherokee Bluff High School, Chestatee High School, Flowery Branch High School and North Hall High School had a minimum of five students who took at least four AP STEM courses.

Flowery Branch High School was also named as an AP STEM achievement school, with 50% of its students earning scores of three or higher.

East Hall High School had a 25% growth in AP student participation between May 2019 and May 2020. This qualified East High High School as an AP expansion school.

“We are committed to expanding opportunities for Georgia students, including in advanced and accelerated coursework,” Woods said. “I offer my sincere congratulations to each of this year’s AP Honor Schools, and thank each teacher, student, and school leader who worked hard to create strong AP opportunities in these Georgia schools.”
