According to the most redent provisional data from the CDC over a 12-month period ending in October 2021, more than 22-hundred Georgians died of drug overdose in Georgia. Opioid oversode respose calls from law enforcement through mid-December 2021 increased by 29 percent.  Naloxone has become more important in helping to prevent deaths. Georgia Council on Substance Abuse Chief of Policy and Communications Jeff Breedlove is advocating for the Georgia General Assembly for additional funding to put more naloxone in the hands of first responders. Naloxone is an FDA-approved medication used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.  Breedlove shared some eye-opening facts on the epidemic with Mornings on Maine Street and what they would like to see happen in the current legislative sesson.  Find resources for anyone dealing with substance abuse at https://gasubstanceabuse.org/
