Authorities have released the name of the suspect in a murder Monday morning on I-85 in Jackson County.

In a press release, the Jackson County Sheriff's office named the suspect as Donald Carver, 67, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Carver was in the vehicle with victim Samuel Sanders, 71, of Philadelphia and Sanders' grandson, Nicholas Avery Jefferson, 22 of Philadelphia.

Jefferson called 911 after his grandfather was shot.

Jackson County deputies arrived at the scene to find a panel truck attached to a U-Haul trailer in the emergency lane. They found Sanders unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies found Carver at approximately 8:52 a.m. in an adjacent building to I-85. He was on a chicken farm, where the owner found him and called 911.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said in a press release that an argument between Carver and Sanders caused the shooting. The group was returning to Philadelphia after a work-related trip.

I-85 northbound was shut down near mile marker 144 for several hours following the incident.

Update 9:09 a.m.: The Jackson County Sheriff's Office has announced one person is now in custody. No other details about the arrest have been released as of 9 a.m.

Original Story: One person was found on the side of I-85 with a gunshot wound early Monday morning. At 3:10 a.m., 911 received a call about a man who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

All morning deputies and K9 officers have been on the ground looking for another suspect, possibly in the area of Hwy. 82 Spur, Dry Pond, and surrounding areas.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who sees anything suspicious in that area to immediately call 911. The GBI has been called in to assist in the investigation, which has shut down I-85 for much of the morning.

More information is expected to be released as the investigation continues.
