Animals and art do not often go together, but the evening of Saturday, March 19 will be all about those two things at the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia’s annual Art with Heart auction.
This year’s auction will mark the thirteenth time the shelter has hosted the event. Proceeds from the art auction, as well as silent and live auctions for other donated items, will benefit the rescues at the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia.
“Last year, we actually had a record number- almost 1,600 rescues adopted out, so we’re hoping to beat that number this year,” said Kevin Wells, events and donor relations manager. “That takes a lot of time and a lot of resources to be able to take care of them, so all of that funding will be going toward the care of the rescues.”
Tickets are on sale now for the event. In-person tickets start at $100 for individuals and $180 for couples. Tickets include complimentary wine, beer, heavy hors d'oeuvres, and an Art with Heart commemorative gift. The event is being held at the Chattahoochee Country Club.
The theme for this year’s event is Roaring 20s- a change from previous auctions. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in their best flapper, gangster or other period attire.
“We’re going to have a speakeasy area, we’re going to have wine grab and whiskey grab [and] we’re going to have some experiences based around the 1920s like trips and baskets,” said Wells.
Featured artists this year include an original by Dennis Campay, as well as pieces by Fox Gradin, Janet Cornett, Danette and John Sperry, Shelley Hassell, and Zen and Now Clay Studio.
Other “non-art” items will be up for grabs, including a Napa Valley Wine Tasting Experience.
Last year’s event was limited primarily to sponsors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Wells. This year, anyone will be allowed to attend in-person, but those who feel uncomfortable doing so can order a Virtual All-Access Pass for at-home viewing for $75.
Tickets are available for purchase on the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia website.
