RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico —Playing in his first-ever PGA Tour event as a professional, Spencer Ralston guaranteed himself a healthy payday once Sunday rolls around at the Puerto Rico Open.

The former Gainesville High and University of Georgia standout made the cut and sits tied for 24th at 5-under par after shooting a second-round 68 on Friday on the Par 72 Grand Reserve Country Club (Old Course). Ralston will tee-off for Saturday's third round at 11:25 a.m. playing alongside Austrailia's Aaron Baddeley.

Ralston shot a 1-under 71 on Thursday after a rough start with three bogeys over the first seven holes. But he rallied with birdies on Nos. 14 and 15 to get to 1-under.

On Friday, he started strong with an eagle on the Par 5 No.2 and a birdie on the Par 5 fifth. After seven straight pars, he bogeyed No. 14, but then closed out the day with birdies on Nos. 17 and 18 to get to 5-under.

His second round effort jumped him 20 spots on the leaderboard and he is six shots behind 36-hole leader Ryan Brehm (11-under). The cut was set at 1-under.

Gainesville's Spencer Ralston, seen here during the 2021 US Open, made the cut in his first-ever event as a professional. He is 5-under after shooting a 4-under 68 on Friday in the second round of the 2022 Puerto Rico Open.
