An undercover sting targeted underage nicotine sales in Habersham County on Tuesday.

The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office says that they sent an undercover informant under the age of 21 into 14 local businesses to buy nicotine vape products. Three of those businesses completed the sale. Citations were issued to those found in violation of the law.

It is illegal to provide tobacco products to anyone under the age of 21, according to Georgia Law 16-12-171.

Operation “Check Out” was in collaboration between the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division and the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office.

Sheriff Joey Terrell said, “This is the first of many operations that will take place in our country periodically.”
