COLUMBUS, Ga. — It was a turnover-filled night for Chestatee against the Class 4A defending state champion, Carver-Columbus.
The Lady War Eagles tallied 29 turnovers that led to a 62-36 loss in the second round of the Class 4A state tournament Friday night.
Carver's Caylee Simpson, who finished with a game-high 23 points, began the game on an 8-0 run. But even though the Lady War Eagles had issues with the Carver pressure, they only trailed 18-7 at the end of the first quarter, and in the second quarter, cut the lead to nine points, 20-11.
That was the beginning of the end as Carver continued hounding Chestatee with a suffocating full-court press and stingy half-court defense to end the half on a 17-6 run and a 37-18 advantage.
The Lady Tigers held Chestatee to eight points in the third quarter en route to a 52-26 lead.
Bowen Corley finished her career at Chestatee with a team-high 16 points. Riley Black added nine points, Payton Cable with four, Caroline Bull with three, Riley Allison and Sierra Yarbrough had two each.
