Boys soccer: Johnson blasts Jackson Co. to open 8-5A; Lakeview-Lumpkin draw

HOCHSTON — Johnson opened up Region 8-5A play with a 7-2 win over Jackson County on the road on Friday. 

The No. 1-ranked Knights (8-0-1, 1-0 Region 8-5A) got a hat trick from Jorge Sandoval, two goals from Ramon Aguilar, and Angel Sagrero and Christian Robles each added one goal.

Andres Galicia dished out a pair of assists for Johnson. Freshman Jalil Chaves and junior Ramon Aguilar both had one assist.

The Knights will step of region play on Tuesday to play host to Lumpkin County at The Dungeon.

The Lions and Indians played to a draw at The Burial Grounds in Dahlonega.

Lakeview (1-2-3) scored first on a 20-yard blast from Liam Weidner in the first half on an assist from Bryan Ramsey. 

Lumpkin County (1-6-1) scored twice to take the lead. But the Lions tied the match on a penalty kick in the second half from Liam Weidner.

Lewis Coyle recorded 13 saves in goal for Lakeview.

Lakeview next will open Region 6-A Private action on Tuesday against The Weber School.

Lumpkin County will travel to Johnson on Tuesday.

Johnson's Ramon Aguilar (in white) scored two goals to lead the No. 1 Knights to a 7-2 win over Jackson County on Friday in both teams' Region 8-5A openers.
