The Alto fire that happened at Gilstrap Rode on Feb. 18 has been ruled arson, according to Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King.
This intentionally-set fire destroyed a 125-year-old, vacant 1300-square foot residence. The building in Habersham County had been unoccupied for 16 years and was not connected to public utilities.
Commissioner King’s Fire Investigations Unit is assisting the Habersham County Emergency Services with this arson investigation. Through the State Fire Investigations Unit, the Georgia Arson Control will offer $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the involved individuals.
“We are asking for the help of the community in bringing the perpetrator(s) to justice,” King said. “Anyone with information about this Habersham County fire is invited to call my Fire Investigations Unit at 1-800-282-5804.”
