Medical professionals are constantly on their feet and on the front lines, between taking care of patients and battling the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

As a result, it is only fair that they get to wear comfortable clothing and express their style. The Scrub Closet, located on Thompson Bridge Road and less than three miles from Northeast Georgia Medical Center, helps them to do just that.

“Nurses bear a lot and they don’t take a lot of pride in their work, but when they come in here and get new clothes…it’s a sense of pride in helping them,” said Ron Hollis, who owns The Scrub Closet with his wife, Tracey.

The Scrub Closet offers a variety of brands, colors and styles of scrubs- beyond the imagination of anyone used to wearing regular business casual.

The store even has spaces for scrubs embroidered with a local organization’s logo, including Northeast Georgia Physicians Group and the Longstreet Clinic.

While most people think of nurses when they see scrubs, Tracey Hollis said all kinds of working professionals buy from their store.

“We do a lot with the hospital, but we also do a lot with schools, dental offices, different medical offices, lunchrooms…pretty much most of all of them, we have a market for,” said Tracey Hollis.

Tracey Hollis has worked in a dental office for nearly 30 years. Like many of her customers, she understands the difference a comfortable pair of scrubs can make.

“I know what it feels like to be in scrubs and to know that you can be in these versus regular clothes…I mean, now I’m an office manager and they keep saying, ‘You really need to go in regular clothes,’ and I’m like, ‘No, these are comfortable,’” said Tracey Hollis.

Unlike many businesses in the community, The Scrub Closet has experienced a huge increase in business during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of this increase comes from selling to travel nurses, but Tracey Hollis said all medical professionals want to have multiple sets of scrubs, now more than ever.

“A lot of nurses have come in here and said they don’t feel comfortable wearing the same clothes over and over again,” said Tracey Hollis. “Even though they come in and get five sets for the week, they don’t feel comfortable after they clean those. They feel like they need more.”

The Hollises opened The Scrub Closet in 2011 when another local scrub store closed. In addition to scrubs, some other available products include shoes, t-shirts and accessories.

If a product is not available in store, a friendly store employee can order it online.

The Scrub Closet is located at 1292 Thompson Bridge Road. Store hours at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
