The Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board recommended approval Tuesday of a 70-unit townhome development just off of Browns Bridge Road.

The project would be on just under eight acres of land on Florence Drive near Bentley Park Circle. The applicant is McKinley Homes U.S., LLC.

Several residents spoke against the project at Tuesday's meeting, citing traffic and density concerns.

"Sure the property goes deep, but when you're developing that piece, the big trucks and the workers are just going to overwhelm Florence Drive," Resident Betty Fister said. "Florence isn't that wide of a street. There's enough traffic now."

The Planning and Appeals Board recommended the special use request unanimously.

The proposal will now go to the Gainesville City Council for a final decision on March 1.
