ELLIJAY, Ga. — The East Forsyth boys basketball team continued its run in the Region 7-3A tournament, knocking off No. 4 seed Cherokee Bluff, 60-51, at Gilmer High School on Thursday.
The win not only advances the first-year team and No. 7 seed to the semifinals of the tournament but guarantees the Broncos a spot in the Class 3A tournament.
Matthew Rouse was on fire again, dropping 24 points, six rebounds and four assists to lead the Broncos. Bryce Bracco added 19 points, five boards and four steals.
In the nightcap, Lumpkin County (8-18) couldn't crack Gilmer's zone defense falling 44-34 to the Bobcats. The loss eliminates the Indians from the tournament.
Lumpkin County grabbed the lead late in the second quarter, 13-12 but couldn't build on it. Gilmer, on the other hand, went on a 10-3 run to close out the first half up, 22-16.
In the second half, the Bobcats extended the lead to 10 points, 36-26.
Cade Carter led the Bobcats with a game-high 22 points.
