TIGER — Class 2A eighth-ranked Rabun County ran its win streak to five and also remained unbeaten in Region 8-2A with a big 76-49 home win over Riverside Military Academy on Saturday night.
However, the struggling Eagles made the Wildcats work for it early. Rabun County (18-5, 6-0 Region 8-2A) led just 12-6 after the first quarter and extended its lead to 31-20 by halftime as RMA (0-16, 0-5Region 8-2A) slowed the pace of the game.
But the Wildcats exploded for a 45-point second half. They outscored the Eagles 25-10 in the third quarter to pull away for 56-30 lead going into the final period.
Connor McKay had another monster game for Rabun County with 24 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Jack Hood poured in 14 points to go with 3 rebounds, Clayton Dixon had 7 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals, and Bear Old chipped in with 6 points, 7 rebounds, and dished out 4 assists as well.
The Wildcats will travel to defending region champion Elbert County (6-15, 4-1 Region 8-2A) on Tuesday with a chance to lock up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming region tournament.
Riverside will travel to Union County on on Tuesday.
