FLOWERY BRANCH — The Flowery Branch tennis teams opened their seasons on Wednesday against North Forsyth at home.
The Branch girls took a solid 4-1 win over North Forsyth while the boys dropped a narrow 3-2 decision to the Raiders.
The Lady Falcons swept the singles en route to the victory. Sandra Hernandez took a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles while Avery Marx survived a three-set match at No. 2 (6-1, 5-7, 10-8) and Katie Martin got a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
The No. 1 doubles of Case Beaver and Richney Nguyen held on for a 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) win. Ally Shedd and Casey Skaggs lost 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 at No. 2 doubles.
For the boys, Josh Warren was leading 6-2, 4-1 before the Raiders’ Thomas Stewart retired at No. 3 singles for the Falcons first point. The No. 1 doubles team of Mason Foreman and Logan Magnuson followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win to tie the match at 2-2.
It came down to the No. 2 doubles, where North Forsyth’s Calvin Washburn and Jayen Bornett rallied from a set down to beat Branch’s Harrison Grissom and CJ Nguyen 5-7, 7-6, 10-3 in a tiebreaker to clinch the win.
