Georgia gas prices are continuing to decline ahead of the holiday weekend.
According to the latest report from AAA Monday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in the state is now $2.78. That price is 10 cents cheaper than the week before and 36 cents less than a month ago.
AAA Spokeswoman Montrae Waiters said several factors are contributing to the decline.
“The winter pattern of less driving due to shorter days, combined with increasing crude oil supply, and Governor Kemp’s decision to extend the suspension of the state gas taxes through January 10th, have influenced lower gas prices," Waiters said. "Industry experts are still unsure if gas prices will remain low after the new year.”
Locally, prices are even lower with the average price in Hall County dropping to $2.64 per gallon. The cheapest prices in Northeast Georgia are in Stephens County, with an average of $2.59 per gallon.
